I have read somewhere that around almost 500,000 school buses carry about 25 million children to and from school every weekday in the United States alone.
School Buses has been considered as one of America's largest mass transportation fleet which is more than twice larger than intercity, transit buses, commercial airlines and railroad all combined!
The School Bus has been proven as 8x safer than their parents' cars and considered to be the safest form of ground transportation. Just stop and think when you get to a railroad track crossing, don't you ever wonder why the buses stop before entering the railroad crossing?

The school buses are subjected to a much higher inspection, equipment and construction standards than any other vehicle and the person that drives these vehicles undergo training, testing and should meet the required qualification than any other driver.
